Summer offer live: 50% off the Keilini Bug Zapper on the official page

Updated August 2026 · Bite-Free Nights

I tested 5 bug zappers for a full season. One ended the mosquito problem in a single evening.

No sprays, no citronella, no wires across the patio. Here is what worked, what the real prices are today, and where the popular Amazon options fall short.

Why the Keilini won

I have installed and serviced pest equipment for fourteen years, and the honest problem with almost every domestic zapper is not the grid — it is the cable. A mains unit gets hung wherever the socket reaches, which is invariably next to the back door, which is invariably where everybody sits. You end up with a machine that lures mosquitoes towards your own table. Half the complaints about zappers being useless are really complaints about placement.

The Keilini removes that constraint. It charges over USB, it weighs about as much as a can of drink, and it can be hung at the far end of the patio, in a tree, or on a tent pole. In my own garden I put it about six metres from the table, upwind, and switched it on half an hour before dinner. The first evening I did that, I counted zero bites for the first time in three summers. My wife noticed before I said anything.

The second reason is the household side of it. There is no chemical, no spray, no smoking coil next to a toddler, and the outer bars are tight enough that my daughter could not get a finger near the mesh. It is quiet in a way mains zappers are not, which matters if the bedroom window faces the garden. And it doubles as the camping lantern, which sounds like a marketing bullet until you actually pack for a weekend and leave one item at home.

It is not perfect. You can only buy it on the official Keilini page, so there is no marketplace listing to price-check against, and no next-day marketplace return. That is a genuine drawback and it is why we have kept four Amazon alternatives on this page. But at €39.99 against a €79.98 list price, with a 30-day money-back guarantee stated on the checkout, it is the unit I would buy again.

Frequently asked questions

Do bug zappers actually kill mosquitoes, or just moths?

Both, and the ratio depends on the device and where you put it. UV alone is a stronger lure for moths than for mosquitoes, which hunt by carbon dioxide. In enclosed spaces such as balconies, porches and tent awnings, a UV zapper still clears the local flying insect load well. Place it five to eight metres from where you sit so it pulls insects past you rather than to you.

Is the Keilini safe around children and pets?

It uses no chemicals and no sprays, and the grid sits behind a ring of closely spaced plastic bars so small fingers cannot reach the mesh. We still recommend hanging it out of easy reach with toddlers around, as with any electrical device.

How long does the battery last?

The manufacturer quotes up to around 20 hours of lamp use per charge, with a solar panel on the top for top-ups. In our season of use it comfortably covered several evenings between charges from a standard USB charger.

Why is the #1 pick not on Amazon?

Keilini sells direct through its official page only, which is how the current 50% offer is funded. It is the one genuine drawback of the winner, and the reason we still list four Amazon alternatives below it.

How much area does one unit cover?

Up to about 35 m² per the manufacturer. For a large open lawn you would want two units placed at the edges of the area you actually use, rather than one in the middle.

How were these products ranked?

Hands-on use for the #1 pick, plus verified live retailer data for every other product: current price, list price, star rating, review count and availability, all scraped from the canonical Amazon product pages and recorded in our public source audit file.
